On this date March 24, 1970 the initial instrumental tracks were recorded for “Close To You” by The Carpenters at A&M Studios in Hollywood. The song was written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, and the record was produced by Jack Daugherty. It was arranged by Richard Carpenter, and Herb Alpert who suggested they record it. The orchestrations, and other overdubs were done at a separate session on April 11, 1970. Vocals were added later.
